Sam Allwood Racing, Monday 14th September
The most recent equine related visit we have made has been to some friends at Ash Magna, just outside Whitchurch. This is the stables of Sam Allwood, a leading point to point trainer and a recent addition to the rules ranks.
First lot under the morning sunrise
From his base near Whitchurch, he has established a fair amount of equine talent, with runaway Tabley maiden and Aintree point to point bumper winner Rob The Getaway a recent addition to the yard.

In his first season in the NH ranks he managed to score a fourth place finish in the Midlands National with Sheneededtherun, who has cemented herself as the stable star not just because of her improvement for a staying trip, but because one of the staff, Becky, absolutely idolises the horse ever since she joined the team after her father ceased training recently. She claims that SNTR gives off a presence and knows she is the queen of the yard.

The morning was simply spot on – cloudless and with a low lying mist on top of the dew-covered fields. With the low sun just rising up as first lot came round the circular gallop, it presented a golden photo opportunity, as the first lot images do indicate…

Walking out for First Lot
Aside from one slightly hairy moment where one of the new arrivals wouldn’t go into the water run and decided to bolt, it was a rather smashing day, which was made even better by a further invite from the team to photograph the string schooling, so that will be something to look forward to at a later date. Again, watch this space!

Allwood Horse Transport are based at the yard as well, headed by the trainer’s girlfriend Vicki. Never found without a smile on her face and a Hungarian Vizsla following her round, if you need a horse transporting anywhere and need a reputable company to trust, we will always recommend her.
Thank you again to Sam, Vicki and all at the yard for the opportunity to visit the stables and cover the morning’s action on the gallops, we are very grateful for it, especially in these tough times.
Third Lot through the water run
Since then, it has been a very quiet and uncertain period, with still no firm date on when we can resume racing. So therefore it means we are only available for yard visits and private shoots with you and your horse. Also, if you are a racecourse manager and your photographer can’t make the meeting for whatever reason, at present we are on standby to cover for them at a moment’s notice. Hopefully very soon we will hear some good news on a resumption of racing for us, so we can bring the content we have been renowned for back to you all.
Until next time,
Tom & Jack
